My Summer Beauty and Lifestyle Essentials

With summer in full swing, I wanted to share with you all a few products that I would never make it through these hot months without. During the summer, I am generally very active and turn to products that are easy, light, and reliable. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with these products! View my Summer Essentials board on Pinterest here to purchase them all: And feel free to follow me, too!

  • The Classic Running Short - I love to be active during the summer- whether it's rehearsing for a show, running to and from the gym for a pilates or yoga class, doing errands around town, or just spending time with my family at home, I always find myself in a running short. They let your legs breathe which is a necessity in the hot Texas and Oklahoma summer months, and come in such a wide variety of colors and styles that anyone could find a pair that's perfect for them. I have been loving Target's activewear line called C9. The shorts I have from their collection are durable, colorful, and very breezy - perfect for a busy lifestyle in the sweaty south.
  • Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream - I love BB creams in the summer time. No one wants to look cakey or too done up in the summer - the goal is to look fresh faced and dewey, and the Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream helps me achieve this while giving me an SPF protection of 30, which is essential for my fair skin. A few drops of this on a foundation brush and I look awake, airbrushed, and naturally dewey. Just make sure to set it with your favorite setting powder, because the formula can stay wet due to the SPF.
  • L'Oreal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Waterproof Mascara - This is by far my favorite drugstore and waterproof mascara. A waterproof mascara is a must-have for the muggy Southern summer weather, and this one has the most staying power of any I've ever tried. This will not come off until you take it off with eye makeup remover - hot yoga approved. It also does a great job of volumizing and lengthening. If you've never tried this mascara or any of the mascaras from the Voluminous line, run out to your nearest drugstore ASAP because you're missing out.
  • MAC Powder Blush in Peechykeen - A peach blush paired with a BB cream and a mascara is the perfect "no makeup" makeup look for summer. You could say I am a bit addicted to MAC blushes - They are incredibly blend-able and have an amazing satin finish. If you're looking for the perfect peachy blush to make you look fresh and naturally beautiful, look no further.
  • Jergens Natural Glow Gradual Tanner - Most color that you will see on me during the summer months is due to Jergens Natural Glow. There is no offensive self-tanner odor; it is light and gradual and never looks too orange or fake. Because I am so fair, spending too much time in the sun turns me into a lobster and is just plain dangerous, so this product really helps me keep a healthy glow all summer long without putting my skin at risk.
  • Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Moisturizers - If you're looking for a moisturizer that will keep your skin supple all day long during the harsh summer months, look no further. If you have never tried argan oil infused products, let me introduce you to the best thing your skin has never had. All of Josie Maran's products are infused with 100% pure, cold pressed argan oil. One application of the Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter and I am moisturized all day long.
  • JCrew Vintage Cotton T - Beautiful cotton T's in bright colors are a must for me during the summer, and these JCrew Vintage T's definitely fit the bill. Light, fitted, and casual, they are a perfect way to look chic and put together while staying cool. Select colors are on sale on their website right now, so snatch up two or three if you love a good fitted T like I do.
  • Essie Polish in First Timer - It's no secret that I am a mint green fanatic, and summer is the perfect time to do a bright green nail. This is my favorite mint shade by a company that I absolutely love - gorgeous pastels, creamy formulas, and a good price.

What are some of your summer beauty essentials? Have you tried any of the products listed and love them like I do? Leave me a comment and let me know. And until next time, stay gorgeously you!

Real Beauty

Hi, everybody! I was looking over my blog and realized that I wanted to sit down and talk about something tonight that is very important to me. Even though this is a beauty blog, and I'm going to be talking a lot about products, and that is going to be the majority of the content on this page, I also wanted to talk about how important it is to me that I empower women to feel wonderful about themselves without it.

I love the artistry of makeup. I really do feel like an artist with a paintbrush when I do makeup, and it has always been so fun for me. But I also think its really important to take it all off every once in a while and go out into the world and feel good about yourself without it. Every single girl in the entire world has insecurities. I can't stand the dark circles under my eyes, I have chicken bumps that gets worse in the winter. Other silly sort of vain things include that I think my eyes are too small. I have things I don't like about my body. But I know I am not the only girl in the world with insecurities and I know that everyone struggles with self image issues. There is a quote by J.K. Rowling that I love:

“Is 'fat' really the worst thing a human being can be?" She asks.  "Is 'fat' worse than 'vindictive', 'jealous', 'shallow', 'vain', 'boring' or 'cruel'? Not to me.”

Even though she uses the example of obesity in this quote, it can easily be applied to any insecurity you may have. I have been trying for the past two years or so to make a conscious effort to go out in public without makeup on and really feel good about myself when I do. I have had people say to me when I am bare faced, "Oh my gosh, Kaley, are you sick? You look so pale and tired!" I have gotten to the point where I just try to laugh it off, and most of the time I tell them that I really am sick (haha). But that's hard. And I'm sure I'm not the only one that that has happened to, but that is hard. I go out into the world and the first thing someone tells me is that my bare face looks sickly? Obviously they say it out of genuine concern and are trying to be nice, but that SUCKS.

But like J.K. Rowling said, there are so many worse things a person could be. I would rather have a stranger look at me and think, "She has really dark circles under her eyes" than have the people who surround me every day think I'm cruel, or vain, or vindictive.

I know that this sounds so cheesy, but beauty really does come from within. I know so many fantastic girls at school, and most of them are my incredible sorority sisters. And yes, they're beautiful because they're beautiful girls, but that's not the best, or most beautiful thing about them. The best thing about them is that they all have this incredible contagious energy. They see the best in every situation and are always radiating positivity. They are compassionate, and classy, and kind. Those are the kinds of women I want to model myself after. I want to have this contagious energy that everyone wants to be around. I want to be kind, and compassionate, and generous, and make a difference. And I want that to be what defines my life. Not how I look with or without makeup.

I have a wonderful boyfriend. He tells me that I'm beautiful every day. He tells me that I'm beautiful when I have makeup on. He tells me I'm beautiful when I don't have makeup on. And the great thing about him is that he never makes a distinction between the two. He doesn't treat me any differently when I have makeup on and when I don't. He's just the greatest. But even if you don't have a boyfriend to help boost your confidence when you're feeling low (like we all do sometimes), I think you can do the same thing for yourself. I think you should love yourself equally when you aren't wearing makeup and when you are. Don't treat yourself any differently. And I think your mind will start to disassociate the way you feel about yourself from makeup. And I think that's really important for us all to train ourselves to do.

I think the more you go out without makeup on, the more confident you will start to feel. And trust me. No one else sees your flaws the way that you do. The things that you're obsessing over? No one else even notices.

I just wanted to sit down and talk tonight about the fact that even though this is a beauty blog, makeup is just extra. Makeup is just there to enhance what is already there and what is already so beautifully you. And then there doesn't have to be any pressure! Of course this will be harder on some days more than on others. But I think makeup should just be fun. And we should all be able to go out into the world and feel good with our makeup on because we felt good alreadyI really hope that all these things come across in my blog.

So... I hope everyone is having an awesome start you your summer! I'll talk to you all soon... and in the mean time, go out without any makeup on and just feel good about yourselves! Because you are all so beautiful, you don't have any idea.

Until next time,

Kaley xoxo

Summer Skincare Essentials

Hi, ladies! I have copied and pasted the majority of this from my other blog page (dedicated to health/overall wellness), but I wanted to post it here for anyone who feels like they are in need of a new summer skincare regimen!

I have sensitive, dry skin and all of these products are my bulletproof essentials in keeping my skin clean, clear, and free of irritation. If you have skin that is sensitive and fair like mine, or just feel like you're in need of rebooting your skincare routine this summer, I highly recommend all these products. I notice HUGE differences in my skin when I stop using them or switch up my routine. It has become my Holy Grail of skincare. I hope you all find this post helpful! Post a comment below if you have any questions about these products and I will answer to the best of my abilities!

My Summer Skincare Essentials

1. Philosophy's Purity Made Simple facial cleanser. This is the gentlest method of removing makeup that I have found in years and years of taking off heavy stage makeup. It is meant to be used as an all over facial cleanser/makeup remover in the shower. It is gentle, foaming, has no offensive odor, and leaves your face feeling smooth and even a little moisturized. It emulsifies tough, waterproof mascara better than anything else I have tried. It can be purchased here.

2. Bare Mineral's Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser. Don't let this product's name turn you off if you have sensitive skin. I never like to use anything too abrasive on my skin, but this is a gentle, powder-based, water activated cleanser. I like to follow up the Purity Made Simple with this cleanser using my Clarisonic Mia. I notice a huge difference in the redness of my cheeks (I have mild rosecea) when using this product. You can purchase it here.
Side Note: If you don't have a Clarisonic, I would highly recommend investing in one. Just go online and look at the side-by-side comparisons of the amount of dirt still left on your face after using the Clarisonic and after using just your hands. The results are insane.

3. Dermadoctor Calm Cool & Corrected Anti-redness Tranquility Cream. This is pretty much the Holy Grail of moisturizers for me. I went into an Ulta when I was probably about 13 and there just so happened to be a certified dermatologist there doing free skin-evaluations. She recommended this products to me for the redness in my cheeks. I used it for around a year until the bottle ran out, and then didn't repurchase it because it is on the pricey side. Since then, I have always come back to this moisturizer. I've tried just about everything from Olay to Neutrogena to different "organic" products at Lush and nothing reduces my redness like Dermadoctor. The bottle lasts around a year because you don't need much to see results, and I would say $85 a year for little to no redness in my cheeks is way worth it.

4. Dermadoctor Wrinkle Revenge Rescue & Protect Eye Balm. This eye cream was a brand new purchase for me at the beginning of this week due to the dry, flakiness of my under-eyes that I was experiencing. I think I am going to really love this product. It has already eliminated the dryness and flakiness in only three days of use. It is to be used twice daily, at night and when you wake up in the morning and claims to reduce wrinkles and dark circles. Obviously I don't have wrinkles, but it is always a good idea to start taking preventative measures against aging. This cream seems to be firming the skin around my eyes, which I really like so far. I do, however, have pretty dark pink/purple genetic under eye circles. I've had them for as long as I can remember, and I always feel like I have to pack a ton of concealer on under my eyes to get my face to look as bright and awake as I want it. I have gotten so sick recently of feeling like my makeup is cake-y and unnatural looking when all I want is to be able to feel comfortable allowing my natural skin to show through. The reviews I have read on this product are mixed when it comes to the reduction of dark circles. Some saw little to no improvement, and others claim that using this product is the brightest their under-eyes have ever looked. I imagine it is different with everyone, but I love the way this cream feels on my skin so I will continue to use it. Hopefully I will be one of the lucky customers who sees results in the dark-circles department. You can buy this product here.

Until next time,

Kaley xoxo
